[For merchants using the Shopify POS app] Flow for searching customer using one-dimensional barcode/two-dimensional barcode

Membership card can display an one-dimensional barcode/two-dimensional barcode with embedded customer ID. It may be possible to improve efficiency if customer search is included in the business flow, such as when the customer is shared with a physical store.

Two-dimensional barcodes cannot be read by a POS app. You need to read it by the terminal's camera.

One-dimensional barcodes must be read with a barcode reader (as of July 21, 2023, only unofficial third- party products can be used in Japan).
 

Steps for two-dimensional barcode

The step for reading the code varies depending on the device model, OS, etc. Please check the specification of the terminal to be used for POS.

  1. Read the two-dimensional barcode and copy the read number
  1. Open the Shopify POS app
  1. Select "Customersˮ
  1. Paste it into the search window
  1. Select the applicable customer
 

Steps for one-dimensional barcode

Depends on the barcode reader model

As of July 21, 2023, there is no official Shopify barcode reader available in Japan, so you will have to use a third-party one.

The customer ID is embedded in the barcode as well as the two- dimensional barcode, so please follow the steps for your barcode reader to connect. Read with the connected barcode reader.
